BabiquBBQ: Chasiu Rice In The Next Level

If you follow my food trip recently, you might see numbers of Chasiu Rice been posted on my account. This typical comfort food of mine is a lot in Singapore but not in Jakarta. It's pretty difficult to find a good one right here until BabiquBBQ founded.

Two good guys work partnering to operate this brand. One of them works in the kitchen and the other one work for the entire management. The simple collaboration that turns into a significant business opportunity. I meet them before and yes they are pretty humble! They will show you a real definition of chasiu and crispy pork belly.

Nestled in Pluit Mas Selatan, BabiquBBQ is still homemade and small. They have several dining tables for four persons each without any decor. This lovely setup reminds me the taste of hawker food (Kopitiam style) in a Singapore. Not even complicated, but comforting and satisfying. Raise your hand who love this! :)

Only three menus available here including Nasi Chasiu, Nasi Siobak or even Nasi Campur. Let's highlight one by one!

My personal favorite is Nasi Campur (IDR 37,000 / S$ 4.30). Featuring a hearty combination between nicely marinated pork meat, crispy pork belly, and fragrant rice; bathed in rich soy sauce. It's tasty, juicy, and tender. You might expect the melt in mouth texture of chasiu because it happens all the time! Also, that chasiu and crispy pork belly have been soaked up the richness of that sauce until so fragrant but not even soggy at all. If you are looking for more heat, they served this with sambal matah on the side. Just delicious.

In fact, chasiu is better regarding taste and texture. Therefore, Nasi Chasiu is what you are looking for. 'More red meat, more goodness' is what comes up in my mind when shooting for this. It's quite similar to the one I taste in Singapore (1 Michelin Star Restaurant). Once again, perfectly marinated and packed with flavor. Time to eat? 🙂

Nasi Siobak is not my kind of menu, but it's completely different when it comes to my mom & sister. They love this more instead of the chasiu because of the crispiness overload. Crunch, crunch, and more crunch whenever you bite it. That fat layer at the center has successfully added another dimension of texture (chewy and a tad of gummy). After all, it still depends on your preference.
