Kwetiau 28Aho: Old Recipe Since 1977

Kwetiau 28Aho

A throwback to 1977, the growth of noodle restaurant in Jakarta is relatively quiet and not as much as today. Only several brands that survive over the test of time including Kwetiau 28Aho. This family run business is founded by the elder of Aho family who works 24/7 behind the kitchen. Experimenting with noodle, spices, and fresh vegetables to create a plate of decent kwetiau dishes like no other. The key point here is authenticity and a genuine old recipe that is just irreplaceable.

Entering the year of 2017, Kwetiau 28Aho growth fast. Owning more than five stalls in Jakarta, the young owner always sees the prospect of this business well. Even though they start from a humble beginning in the past, now they become much more modern regarding looks, but the flavor remains the same like in the past. My parents become the real evidence of this statement since they used to eat in Kwetiau 28Aho on 1980's and now, perhaps they said the taste similar and nothing change much regarding flavor and texture. Consistency speaks more than words.

The only store that I visit this time is located in AEON Mall exactly at the food court area when tons of good food available. Owning only a small kiosk at the corner does not close the barrier for the customer to place their order fast. With six staff in the store including the chef and cashier, the service is quite quick and friendly. It takes around 10 - 15 minutes until your food is ready even during meal hours.

Start with the crowd pleaser menu called Kwetiau Siram Sapi (IDR 38,000 / S$ 4,40). Featuring the nicely cooked kwetiau with ultra-tender beef and fresh vegetables; bathed in gooey tapioca garlic sauce. It is smooth, sticky, and tasty. Whenever you slurp it, you can feel the right density of that noodle with strong wok hei aroma and tenderness of that meat. That sauce is just tasty and not overpowering the palate. I love the fresh vegetables as well which add a slightly crispy texture to each slurp of it. If you are a spicy food fanatic, do add the watery chili for an extra heat and fragrant.

Nasi Goreng Seafood

Personally, Nasi Goreng Seafood (IDR 38,000 / S$ 4,40) is my favorite item so far. The stir fried rice with egg, tender chicken, and succulent pieces of prawn taste so delicious. With more garlic oil on it, the aroma of that rice will catch you mouthwatering all the time. Even when you dig in, you will find lot and lot of prawns which is fresh and juicy. Ask for the special omelet or known as Telor Dadar for a more delightful dining experience. How do you think? :)

Mie Goreng Seafood

Indonesian love Mie Goreng Seafood (IDR 38,000 / S$ 4,40), so do I. Featuring the ultra-smooth noodle with succulent pieces of prawn and fresh vegetables. What I love the most from this item is the juiciness of those proteins that just melt in my mouth. It's sweet enough for my liking but still enjoyable.

Sop Sapi

Still not enough? Try Kwetiau 28Aho signature side dish called Sop Sapi (IDR 45,000 / S$ 5,10), a bowl full of intestines and homemade meatballs. That soup is intense in garlic flavor while that tribes and tendons were surprisingly juicy and soft. A perfect marriage with a bowl of steam rice. How do you think? :)

For the beverage, I just prefer the Mineral Water instead of canned drinks. But, if you stand on the opposite side of mine, do ask the staff for more details.

Kwetiau 28Aho

Kwetiau 28Aho is the perfect destination for kwetiau (stir fried flat rice noodle) and a bowl of soup. All item is made fresh to order and taste undeniably delicious. Worth every penny.
