In Jakarta, you might find tons of Padang restaurant because it is a staple dishes for our locals. Our locals love the dynamic spectrum of flavor which is spicy, salty, sweet, and bitter all-in-one menu. No wonder Padang Merdeka ground break their first outlet late March 2017.

As the newest establishment in town, Padang Merdeka takes their signature menu collections seriously. All ingredients are imported directly from the mainland of Padang - South Sumatra and everything is organic. No preservatives added, no food coloring added, and the best thing is all menu made fresh every day.

Strategically located in Kota Tua area, Padang Merdeka is rich in cultural history. If you remember the greatest Indonesian warrior like Bung Karno, Bung Hatta, or Raden Ajeng Kartini, all of their picture and calligraphy is just placed within the dining area. Together with a touch of 'Sumatra Miniature Houses,' you will fall in love with everything here. Even the ambiance is totally warm and comforting enough to make you stay.

Once you find your seat, then the staff would serve you with hot tea, and couple minutes later they will bring all the food to the table. Around 15 types of food are being served, and most of them are just hot or warm.

As you can see, the options are abundant, and it is pretty difficult to say which one is the great one. But, for sure, this Ayam Goreng (IDR 19,000 / S$ 2,50) and Ayam Pop (IDR 19,500 / S$ 2,55) is the must-try item. Featuring the perfectly cooked chicken bathed in delicious crumble and served with sambal on the side. It's juicy, tender, and tasty. Just paired this with a couple of steam rice for the best experience. Any better? :)

Another highlight during my tasting is Gulai Nangka (IDR 12,000 / S$ 1,80), a tender jackfruit bathed in delicious gravy, and Ayam Gulai (IDR 19,000 / S$ 2,50), an ultra-tender chicken bathed in curry sauce. All table never forget to have both items.

Nasi Padang

Beef Rendang (IDR 20,000) is my all-time favorite menu on any Nasi Padang restaurant. Therefore, this one is beautiful. The beef is slightly tender but not too tender; you can feel the right density of that meat that not overly moist. Especially that sauce is just thick and tasty. You can feel the richness of spices and seasonings like never. I can have this every day in my life.

Still not enough? Just order the Sate Padang, the house made chicken or lamb skewers bathed in gooey gravy. It's juicy, tender and creamy. Please order minimum ten pieces because the size is just small.

For the beverage, they do serve several types of juices or even canned drinks. I just have the hot tea instead to desaturated the oily and fatty aftertaste.
