Kajiken at Novena Square 2: New Place, Same Taste

Start from the humble beginning at Orchid Hotel, Kajiken finally opened their second branch in Novena Square 2 with a similar concept and warm hospitality. Specialized in Mazesoba, every menu here was a successful reincarnation of traditional Japanese dry noodles.

Therefore, there is a "20 seconds rule" when you need to mixed it up for 20 seconds and feel free to add vinegar or chili oil for extra flavor. At the end of your meal, don't forget to ask the staff for the small portion of rice to get mix with the remaining sauce.

Nestled in Novena Square 2 exactly at the second level, Kajiken owning only a minuscule dining area. During peak hours, the crowd is just unstoppable, and you can wait for more than 20 minutes there. I visit them on Tuesday at 2 pm and there still a queue for approximately. 15 minutes.

They are known for Mazesoba Nagoya Style (S$ 12.90) and for sure, you won't missed this. Featuring the ultra-smooth noodle with a delicious mixture of meat, soft boiled egg, and spring onion. It's simple, comforting and flavourful. The texture of that noodle is what I love the most which are chewy and thick. Therefore, it goes well with that meat and runny egg yolk on top.

Original Kajiken Soba

Another crowd pleaser menu here is Original Kajiken Soba (S$ 12.90). What set a differentiation between this and the previous list is that meat. In this bowl of soba, you will find juicy slabs of char siew instead of minced meat. Regarding flavor, I do prefer the previous menu since it tastes more salty and fragrant. But, regarding texture, nothing can beat this. That char siew is the real winner.

Getting more sophisticated, the Kajiken Soba Special (S$ 14,90) comes next. This menu is very similar with the previous one but with new Chicken Karaage (S$ 1,50). Put more concern to the additional side dish; I can feel the juiciness and crispiness there. Just look at that glistening chicken skin that tastes quite salty and crunchy. Just add two tablespoons of vinegar and chili oil for the best experience.

For the beverage, I always choose the simple one like Ocha or even Mineral Water to removed the oily and fatty aftertaste. But, they also served some canned drinks. Do ask the staff for availability.

Kajiken at Novena Square 2 is as amazing as it previous outlet. The hospitality was great, and the food is just exceptional. One of my place-to-go for soba in Singapore.
