Ramen is an integral part of global culture and its creation is an art form. In Singapore, you can find a wide variety of ramen house that served a pretty common ramen menu with different plating and prices. In case you are looking for the comfort one with rich taste and great presentation, Menya Ryu can be the idea.
Established in 2015 in Singapore, this legendary ramen from Hokkaido, Japan gains its popularity day-by-day. With tight competition in ramen industry, Menya Ryu consistently delivers the original Sapporo miso ramen flavor in a modern presentation. All menu made fresh daily and that rich pork broth have been cooked for over 7 hours each day by Chef Melvin Yeo to ensure the creaminess and richness in every spoon on it.
Strategically located in Bugis+ exactly at Ramen Champion, Menya Ryu owning a big stall at the back side of this ramen court. With big banner of its title, black theme wallpaper, and open-kitchen counter, this venue is quite attracting somehow. I visit this place on Saturday during lunch time, and surprisingly the service is really fast. The staff is quite friendly before and after taking your order. Impress me a bit.
Start with the crowd pleaser menu called Sapporo Miso Special Ramen (S$ 15.80). Featuring the ultra-springy noodle with a tender slab of meat and perfectly boiled egg for unbelievably delicious flavor. It's salty, kind of creamy, and soothing. I love that soup which is fragrant but not too meaty. Just add one more tablespoon of chili powder for the best experience.
Tonkotsu Ramen (S$ 13.80) is also amazing. The sweet, salty and thick pork broth blend really well with that noodle. Even that meat was really well done, the cuts were thick enough and well marinated. If you start fork it, you can feel the tenderness of that meat that just falling apart. However, the broth seems to be heavier than ever. If you love the softer taste, go with the previous one.
Still not enough? Just give it a try for Mentaiko Gyoza (S$ 7.00). A nicely cooked Japanese dumpling drizzled with mentaiko sauce and extra mayo. It's crispy, juicy, and creamy. For the best experience, dip it carefully to the side of soy sauce.
Other sides might be Takoyaki Gyoza (S$ 7.00). Replacing the mentaiko sauce with takoyaki sauce is not a good idea since it tastes quite plain. The gyoza is still nice, but the sauce is not even satisfying.
Menya Ryu is the perfect destination for a comforting bowl of ramen. All menu made fresh upon order and that incredible pork broth are absolutely creamy as the result of 7 hours cooking process. Give it a try for Mentaiko Gyoza as well, since it tastes so good.
