Taken its inspiration from Hongkong fancy delicacies, Jia Contemporary Chinese Dining is a newest F&B venture in town that recently introduced by Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta. Back then, this venue was known as Shang Palace and on August 2016 they started the renovation process which takes approximately 6 months period to become like this.
In order to delight the diners, Jia Contemporary Chinese Dining serves a line-up of the delectable dim sum, scrumptious duck meat, and authentic char siew. There are around 40 menus available here that comes at different prices. Even there is an option for sharing size which means a large portion that fit 6 - 8 people at the same time.
Nestled in Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta exactly at level 1, this prestigious brand has owned a huge dining area. The contemporary Chinese-inspired interior is very stylish and sleek. There is a subtle transcend light surrounded by wooden furniture. The sparkling chandelier on every side of the dining area creates a very warm and comfort feeling. Nevertheless, Jia Contemporary Chinese Dining adds an old-school grilling counter for classic yet traditional touches.
The ultimate signature dishes for dim sum include Abalone Siew Mai (IDR 298K), Steamed Soup Pork Dumpling (IDR 32K), Beancurd Rolls in Oyster Sauce (IDR 28K). We will highlight one by one.
Abalone Siew Mai (IDR 298K) is a premium dim sum menu that only available right here in Jakarta. Using the fresh pieces of abalone, each bite would result in meatier and slightly chewy texture of dumpling. Apart from what it taste, the looks are just sensational. According to what elder said, abalone would bring a long lasting life. In this case, it would deliver a lasting dining memories.
Steamed Soup Pork Dumpling (IDR 32K) as known as Xiao Long Bao is seriously delicious. Featuring the freshly made Chinese dumpling with meaty filling and juicy broth. Just have it while it warm for the best experience.
Steamed Custard Buns with Salted Egg Yolk (IDR 32K) is one of the best-selling items here. Even though it is cute, the taste might speak quite different and more straightforward. The bun is a soft and fluffy complement that rich buttery salted egg yolk filling. However, that sauce is quite sweet for my liking.
Another top-notch menu is Steamed Shrimp Dumplings topped with Bird's Nest and Tobiko (IDR 98K). I miss the softness of that dumpling skin with succulent pieces of prawn. However, that bird's nest is quite dry. I do expect for the better texture of it. But, overall, the taste is still on-point.
Moving on to the entrée, Barbecued Pork wth Honey (IDR 78K) is must order. That juicy slabs of char siew have been marinated nicely and cooked to the perfection. It does not melt in my mouth, but it tastes incredibly moist and meaty. The juiciness remains there but not as strong as I expected. Winning part of this menu is that glistening skin and more sauce.
Baked Scallops stuffed with Shrimp Paste & Home Made Bean Curd in Barbecue Sauce (IDR 168K) is to-die-for. Seriously, this menu is my no.1 recommendation for each of you since it tastes so good. That beancurd is pillowy and fluffy while that baked scallops on top absolutely creamy and succulent. I can feel all different element works really well in my mouth and deliver a great and satisfying flavor. Just paired this with a bowl of steam rice for the best experience.
Next is noodle/rice category. At this stage, there are only two things that you need to order. First, is Lan Zhou La Mian Noodle Soup with Beef Shank (IDR 68K) and the other one is Steamed Fried Rice with Prawn wrapped in Lotus Leaf (IDR 68K). That noodle is quite silly and light in flavor while that meat is the real winner with ultra-tender texture all the time. Meanwhile, for the fried rice the strong wok aroma is there. Definitely fragrant.
End up your meal with Chilled Durian Pancakes (IDR 45K). A nicely wrapped durian flesh in thin pastry skin. When you bite it, the strong durian aroma will just explode in your mouth together with the stickiness of that skin texture. Quite good actually.
Deep Fried Swan with Almond Sauce (IDR 32K). It does look pretty but the taste is good as well. That skin on the outside is just crispy while the dense fillings at the core remain sweet. Instagenic and well presented.
Jia Contemporary Chinese Dining is one of my place-to-go for Chinese food in Jakarta. The overall cuisines are taste good and well presented. Also, the whole ambiance is just warm and comforting. Such a good place for small family gathering. Definitely nice.
