Island Café & Bar has become the much-talked café in town recently. People from across the country including many tourists always come to this place to enjoy the glorious Asian fusion menu like no other. The variety of tantalizing dishes including Indonesia Nasi Goreng, Tahu Telur or even Gula Melaka Café is absolutely made from scratch and fresh upon order.
Established in 1993, Island Café & Bar had undergone a quite big transformation. Back then, the venue is quite dark and cozy, but now it’s just bright and shining. Understanding each of you wouldn’t leave without taking a snap of your meal, this kind of décor works well, though.
Tucked away in Tang Plaza exactly at the top floor of this department store, Island Café own a very spacious dining area with two dining concepts: indoor and outdoor. At the indoor section, the main theme is influenced by Scandinavian settings while at the outdoor scene guest can step into the huge balcony and enjoy the panoramic scene of downtown part Singapore. Knowing that the crowd seems to be high every day, due reserved your seat instead of walk-in visitation.
One of the best menu here is Tauhu Telor (S$ 12.00). Featuring the nicely cooked bean curd omelet topped with roasted peanuts and bean sprouts, bathed in rich spicy soy sauce. It’s juicy, crispy, and soggy. I love the strong wok hei aroma of that egg but not overcooked. Paired this with a couple of steam rice for the best experience. Also, if you love spicy food, do ask for sambal to be paired with this.
Straits Fries (S$ 10.00) means to be share. With rich salted egg powder, crinkle cut fries, and more curry leaf, each bite is just worth the calories. Not too strong, but kind of salty and sweet. That fries is the real winner with nice golden brown skin and soft texture. Definitely must-try.
There is a wide array of the sweet tooth here. If you are looking for the best-seller one, Coffee Walnut Cake (S$ 10.00) and Gula Melaka Cake (S$ 10.00) could be the idea. It’s moist, pillowy, and sweet. Especially it comes in a nice presentation, no one would miss the moment for Instagram Story or Snapchat those cake.
For the beverage, some table just goes with Iced Lemon Tea (S$ 7.00) or Iced Latte (S$ 7.00). It’s sweet, kind of refreshing and aromatic. Such a quintessential beverage to kill this hot and sunny day.
Island Café & Bar is seriously amazing. All menu is quite pricey, but taste undeniably delicious. Do expect everything above to enjoy the hearty fine dining experience.
