The major types of food in Singapore might be Chinese Peranakan cuisine. Basically, this type of cuisine is brought to you by expats who are living here. In case you are looking for the authentic one, here I introduced you to the Five Star Chicken Rice who has been established for more than a decade. Offering the ultimate home cooked dishes with remarkable flavor and generous presentation, each guest savors their best meal here. Apart from what it tastes and what it looks, there would be a guarantee that every meal comes at reasonable prices either for individual or corporate. Sounds heroic? Let's take a peek.
Tucked away in West side of Singapore exactly at the Beauty World area, this brand is just stand out among its contender. Each day there would be a consistent crowd with at least 50 people. Perhaps, most of them are the family who becomes the loyal customer to them since the beginning. No wonder, there would be a long queue during the meal time. Especially on the weekend, I often saw a lot number of people who standing outside the venue and waiting for their meal.
Stepped inside the venue, basically, there is no eye-catching décor at all. Everything seems to be minimalist and simple. Even the space between each table is absolutely tight. Better come before or after meal time for the better dining experience.
It is better to start your meal with some kind of light bites. Among many types of appetizer, what people usually order is Seafood Youtiao (S$ 8.00 / Small). A perfectly cooked dough fritters stuffed with prawn and meat. Whenever you bite it, there would be a crunch sensation at first followed by the juiciness of the meat. Just dip it carefully to the creamy mayo sauce on the side for the extra flavor.
Recently, most of you ask me where to find the best Sambal Fried Rice (S$ 5.50 / Small) in Singapore and this is what you are looking for. With a tantalizing golden red, each grain of rice is cooked to the perfection and stir-fried with shrimps and sambal paste for fragrant and spicy taste. Just dig in and smell the beautiful aroma of it. Sounds tremendous? It is absolutely must-try.
For the main food, Sweet & Sour Pork (S$ 15.00 / Small) is just satisfying in terms of flavor and texture. The meat is nicely executed with juicy and tender texture while the sauce itself is simply brilliant and hot, that goes well with that meat. Paired this with a couple of steam rice and your meal might be as enjoyable as it looks.
The crowd pleaser menu is here. Salad Prawn (S$ 15.00 / Small) showcase you the perfectly crispy prawn bathed in rich mayo sauce and served together with the slice of fruits. Not too salty, but it is more than sweet and creamy. Even that protein is just juicy and tender on its own. To prove it, just place that prawn in your mouth and the intimate lip-smacking sensation is absolutely there. Seriously delicious.
The trend of salted egg dishes might be gone but it is just fine to try this Salted Egg Pork Ribs (S$ 15.00 / Small). Juicy pieces of meat meet the creaminess of salted egg sauce results in unbelievably delicious flavor. Compared to the original version of salted egg sauce, this one is much better. Perhaps, it can be categorized as sweet but still savory. However, I just expect for a better presentation of the meal with thinly cut meat instead of big chunks of meat.
For the beverage, they got everything that you like. But do not expect for free flow iced water. Because they do charge you for S$ 0.20 per glass.
Overall, it is too obvious to say that Five Star Chicken Rice is just old and not even attracting. Because of the fact that every meal that they produce here is qualified and delicious for sure. Just give it a try for the Salad Prawn, Sambal Fried Rice, and Prawn Rolls. Most of them might be looks so simple and easy to be made at home, but it tastes undoubtedly significant. You will love those for sure.
