Udon Goen – Thick, Strong, and Flavorful Curry in Affordable Prices

Established since 2015, this well-known curry house offers you several types of menus at affordable prices. Ranging from juicy and springy ramen until thick and gravy curry rice is at the frontline. No wonder, if this not-too-old Japanese food stall draws a long queue during peak hours and especially on the weekend. Let's find out more.

Strategically located at the Food Republic Wisma Atria level 4, give them a lot of advantages in terms of customer traffic and accessibility. During the weekday, a lot of office worker dominate the queue while on the weekend it turned into tourists and a blend of family and adults couple. Owned by Chef Kumasaka Kazunari who strive the bring the authentic and delicious bowl of curry, all menu is made fresh on the spot and using the best ingredients from the market. Perhaps, to proof this, we come here quite often as a common customer and purchase for multiple different menus. The fact that they consistent with the tagline is definitely true, we do impress by this.

Curry Ramen

The crowd-pleasing menu is Curry Ramen with Chicken Cutlet and Egg, a beautiful handmade noodle bathed in thick curry sauce and topped with tamago egg and chicken cutlet. What captures our attention is that thick gravy which is so rich, with a lot of potato and carrot in there. Meanwhile, that noodle is perfectly cooked and absolutely smooth. Then, when you mixed it up altogether, all of the aromas, the richness will be blend really well in your mouth. Definitely brilliant.

Tonkotsu Curry Rice

Tonkotsu Curry Rice (S$ 7.80) is surely interesting as well. That chicken cutlet is definitely crispy on the outside but remains juicy at the core. Together with the thick gravy as the key element, this affordable plate of curry rice is worth a try. However, we feel the chicken is slightly salty. They need to pay attention to this.

For another good option, you can go with Croquette Curry Rice that is not the best in its class, but certainly satisfying. That potato croquette is battered nicely and got a great crispy skin on the outside while on the inside it's just dense and soft. Within that price tag, it is really reasonable for people or students to come to get this.

 Chicken Thighs

Still looking for light bites? Do expect for Chicken Thighs, Prawn Tempura or Croquette that is just made fresh and definitely crispy. You can find it exactly at the fritters gallery.

Udon Goen is worth a try. All menu made fresh and definitely satisfying. Of course, the winning menu, in this case, is that curry ramen which is new in the market and taste really balanced. Tonkotsu Curry Rice also nice, but we do expect a more balanced flavor. To what extent, the crowd is a symbol of the good brand to try out by you.
