Idaten Udon is still new in Singapore F&B industry, but for Japanese eaters across the board, this venue is not a secret anymore. Presenting a wide variety of Japanese comfort food at affordable prices, this brand new concept of dining brings a new excitement to the area. Either it is weekday or weekend, the snaking queue always formed inside the restaurant. We have visited this place for several times and being impressed by its consistency even though the staff is only a few and the crowd is absolutely high. The capability of each staff to handle 3 – 5 people at the same time has successfully reduce the waiting time.
Located at the basement level of Citylink Mall and situated just beside Paik's Coffee, Idaten Udon boasts up the classic Japanese interior design fused by iconic staff uniform. Wooden furniture, live cooking show, and food gallery set nicely to attract customer's eyes. As you start ordering your meal, usually it takes around 5 – 10 minutes until everything is ready. If you are looking for the best spot for taking a picture of your meal, we do suggest you seat at the back row of dining area when the light seems to be broken but the picture quality is better because less shadow has been made. But still, the composition and photography techniques are the key elements here.
The other crowd favorite is Kamatama Wakame Udon (S$ 7.90). Comes in limited quantity, this type of udon is taste lighter and chewier. We definitely love how they present that piece of the half-boiled egg at the center while that beautiful noodle remains springy and soaked up the richness of that soup and egg yolk. Just add some kind of tempura on the side for extra protein. How do you think?
Enjoy the must-haves Beef Togarashi Udon (S$ 9.90). A dish that cleverly combines succulent pieces of beef, half boiled egg, fragrant soup, and Togarashi Udon, an upgraded version of thick noodle using Japanese pepper and multiple spices. It's juicy, smooth and packed with full-bodied flavor. Just mixed it up together for the best experience. Never blame anyone if you get addicted to this.
Idaten Udon also served a wide range of side dishes include Crab Meat Fry (S$ 2.00), Jumbo Kaki Age (S$ 2.00), Jumbo Ebi Tempura (S$ 3.50) and much more. Those three is the best seller one for sure. It's crispy, juicy and absolutely tasty. We strongly recommend you to pick this instead of the other. But still, the final decision is made by yours.
For the choice of beverages, Hot Ocha can complement your meal nicely by killing those oily and fatty texture from the meat and noodle. The complete menu is right at the ordering counter.
Idaten Udon is absolutely worth a try. The noodle is perfectly cooked and fresh while the wide range of tempura is absolutely attracting. Crispy, juicy and tender in every piece of it. Put emphasis on classic Japanese design, the warmth, and comforting atmosphere is all there. No wonder a lot of guests can stay a bit longer here. Even we also take our time here.
