The second venture of The Nantsuttei Group is a departure from their Orchardgateway outlet. It offers you an all-time favorite noodle dishes that made from scratch and freshly prepared daily. As a purveyor of Japanese ramen and specialty gyoza, Hachifukumaru never lacks of customers. Especially on the weekdays, when white collar worker tends to have a fast but delicious meal, Hachifukumaru always be the right destination. However, on the weekend, the crowd is slightly reduced and usually, it will be dominated by family.
Sited in a good location at the OG Orchard, makes them really accessible for people and tourists within the area. With a spacious table setting, traditional Japanese design, and open kitchen counter, guest can feel much relax while enjoying the beautiful aroma of perfectly cooked noodle from the kitchen. After receiving your seat, the staff would give you a complimentary snack like crackers or chips to be tested before your meal is ready. Despite the crowd is up and down, the meal is consistently delivered around 10 – 15 minutes. In a sense, quick and fast respond is definitely here.
Start with the crowd pleaser menu called Spicy Pork Ramen (S$ 10.80). A perfectly springy noodle bathed in spicy pork broth and topped with tender pork belly. The main highlight of this dish is just everything. We were impressed with the right consistency between juiciness, spiciness, sweetness, saltiness and creaminess from all of the components within that bowl. Even the aroma is unbelievably good. Cannot spot the wrong thing from this.
They say Siro Miso Men (S$ 14.80) is the all-time favorite menu here. The flavourful pork broth with a degree of spiciness is what to expect from this. Perhaps, we just love that juicy minced meat together with that noodle. However, this is the things that we thing they need to pay attention more: too salty. At the top, the soup is still enjoyable, but when hitting the ground, we feel it is not consistent. It doesn't reduce our satisfaction level since we love salty, but for those who don't or even older generation itself, would compromise with this.
And what's a Japanese comfort meal without Gyoza (S$ 6.00)? Hachifukumaru made this using secret ingredients and absolutely handmade. That dumpling skin is absolutely soft and thin while the toppings are remained juicy at the core. Just dipped it carefully to the beautiful soy sauce for extra flavor. Simply brilliant.
Still not enough? Be sure to taste Yude Wan-ton (S$ 6.00). This steamed Japanese dumpling is quite similar to the Chinese version of wonton. Guest can pair this with noodle or even rice. Perhaps, the meaty texture of it is quite entertaining, though.
Hachifukumaru is definitely interesting. The food absolutely great while the service is fast and responsive. That Spicy Pork Ramen and Gyoza is the main highlight of our visit here. Perhaps, you can proof it too or try another one and let us know how is it going. Worth a visit.
