Singaporeans are no stranger to Fu Lin Yong Tofu, the all-time favorite local brand who offer more than 25 menus at relatively low price. Basically, they served two version of yong tau foo. First, they tweak the Hakka Chinese version of yong tau foo that made up with a choice of food, then deep fried in hot vegetable oil and finished using chicken mushroom gravy. The other one is Singaporean style yong tau foo in form of soup. The customer can pick whatever they like here and choose what style of cooking they preferred. As we take a deep insight to both, we do realize that the queue is formed only for the fried one. People rarely choose the soup one, even the fact it tastes not bad as well. In this review, we will show you the Fu Lin Yong Tofu specialty and what to expect from them.
Established in 1994 with five branches situated at Katong, Amoy St, Raffles Quay, Parkway Parade, and Suntec City, Fu Lin Yong Tofu is just spread across Singapore. The one that you see here is located at the Suntec City exactly at the Food Republic. The price, the system and the quality of food are absolutely the same like any other outlets. What makes it different is only that modern decoration and quicker service. Knowing that most of the customer is white collar worker during the weekday, time is kind of important in this case. Perhaps, they can serve every single bowl less than 10 minutes. Such a good way to reduce the queue there.
Reaching out the food gallery, some of you might be confused what to order. Since the variation seems to be too much and all looks similar. What we do suggest you is first to take a look at the meat section and pick the chicken sausage, crab stick, crab nugget, fish nugget, and prawn nugget. All of them is definitely juicy and tender.
Moving on to the dough section, you can give it a try for Youtiao (fried dough), Crispy Beancurd and White Tofu stuffed with meat. Three of them will work well with that chicken mushroom gravy and absolutely crispy.
After your plate of yong tau foo is ready, just paired it with the signature noodle that tastes so smooth and nicely executed. The way that noodle soaked up the richness of that gravy is just perfect and results in balanced taste. We just expect for more salty and peppery.
Price: S$ 6.00 for 6 choices of food + Noodles/Rice
Additional food: S$ 0.80
Fu Lin Yong Tofu is absolutely satisfying in terms of flavor and texture. Despite the fact it's all fried, there is no oily texture or even overcooked texture on their food, all is just well done. Do take whatever you like there and ask them to cooked it right in front of you. We highly recommend you to try the Prawn and Crab Nugget as both is the star on that food rack.
