Warung Koffie Batavia: Proud Local Brand Who Preserve The Tradition

 Warung Koffie Batavia

Jakarta is a land of the coffee shop, and I need to admit that the hiking number of a cafe in town is relatively high nowadays. More than five new cafes launched each month with fancy or even strong penetration in design. However, nothing can beat the homey feeling when entering the Warung Koffie Batavia. A 135 years coffee joint who start from a humble beginning in the past.

Opened shop in 1878 as a modest traditional style convenient store (warung) on Moolen Vhiet Oost in the Colonial Dutch-era Batavia, now Jalan Hayam Wuruk in Jakarta, Warung Tinggi is now being held by the fifth generation of its founder, Liauw Tek Soen, and throughout the decades has developed from warung into a proper shop and coffee shop (Tek Soen Ho), then into a coffee brand supplying some of Indonesia’s best hotels, supermarket, and offices, as well as exporting to countries such as Japan and The United States. In 2013, 135 years after establishing itself as the first coffee shop in Jakarta, Warung Tinggi’s brand was being revamped under OPCO Indonesia’s management, setting up coffee houses serving coffee with Indonesian-Dutch-Chinese influenced food, as well as penetrating into modern retail environments while retaining its value as an Indonesian heritage brand.

 Warung Koffie Batavia

Nestled in Senayan City, Warung Koffie Batavia owns a mid-size dining area with panoramic city view. As you enter the dining area, the homey and warm feeling will circulate your mind and cool down your mood. There is an enormous wooden fan on top of the outdoor area fused by wooden furniture and rustic chair as well. Meanwhile, at the indoor section, you might see a thematic coffee rack with white wallpaper and marble floor. Such a good way to feed your eyes properly.

 Cold Brew

 Cold Brew

As they are known for koffie (re: coffee), Kopi Peranakan (IDR 32,000 / Hot) and Cold Brew (IDR 40,000) is essential. An old and classic brewing method with a robust and bold flavor of coffee that never disappoints you. It tastes as smooth as it looks and addicting. I found myself drink two cups of it every time I visit this place. Just pair this with any choice of side dishes for the perfect mid-day snack.

 Mie Goreng Tek Tek

 Mie Goreng Tek Tek

Moving on to the heavy dishes, Mie Goreng Tek Tek (IDR 50,000 / S$ 5,60) is a must. Featuring the stir fried noodle with sunny side up, shredded chicken, and keropok; coated with sweet soy sauce and garlic. It's smooth, springy, and flavourful. I never expect Mie Goreng Tek Tek as the remarkable local menu can be elevated this high without removing the real essence of it. Worth a try.

 Nasi Kuning

 Nasi Kuning

Nasi Kuning (IDR 53,000 / S$ 5,90) is another best-selling item here. Featuring the conned form of tamarind rice with orek tempeh, omelet, fried chicken, and crispy anchovies; served with sambal and peanut sauce on the side. What impresses me a lot is the classic presentation of it. Not too fancy but slightly minimalist and looks good. The protein is slightly dry for my liking, but still acceptable.

 Kue Cubit Premium

 Kue Cubit Warna Warni

Still not enough? Just give it a try for Kue Cubit Premium Mixed Platter (IDR 40,000 / S$ 4,60), a perfectly baked local cake with six different flavors including taro, chocolate, coffee, red velvet, matcha, and original. This item is perfectly matched with any choice of coffee because it is not too sweet but still sugar high.

 Martabak Mozarella Cheese

 Martabak Mozarella Cheese

Martabak Teluk Mozzarella Cheese (IDR 82,000 / S$ 8,80) is also impressive. A nicely cooked egg pancake with a lot and lot cheese; then torched until perfection. The filling is fulfilling while the presentation remains top notch in the market. You might order this for sharing since the portion is gigantic. Max. 6 for sharing.

 Green Tea Frappuccino

Another beverage like Green Tea Latte (IDR 48,000 / S$ 5,40) is also entertaining but too sweet for my liking. The whipped cream itself is smoothly oozing, and a tad drier when I try it. However, the green tea flavor is not bad.

 Warung Koffie Batavia

Warung Koffie Batavia is a perfect hangout spot for nicely brewed coffee and some light menus. All item made fresh from the kitchen and looks even good when it served. Just order what I stated delicious above and you will be delighted more.

Bakmi Karet Asiu: Best Pork Noodle in Jakarta

 Bakmi Karet Asiu

Jakarta is a land to get fat. There are tons of noodle house in town that taste great and pretty affordable. Recently, I've heard the news about trending pork noodle in the city that belongs to Bakmi Karet Asiu. Without any doubt, I try to find it and here I am. Let's dig in! :)

Bakmi Karet Asiu established in 2013 when the F&B business not as popular as now. The competition is not that stiff, so the market responds nicely to this new noodle baby. The owner is a young blood who are passionate about cooking noodle and making their style charsiew. Fully supported by his mom, this business is an excellent example of successful family run business nowadays. There would be more than 70 bowls of noodle being sold daily, especially on PH they can sell more than 120 bowls of noodle consistently until sold out early. After a long talk with the owner, I do understand the secret recipe behind their success story is humble and honest. Both words are the best way to describe this noodle house as well.

 Bakmi Karet Asiu

Bakmi Karet Asiu

Bakmi Karet Asiu

Nestled in Kelapa Gading area exactly at Kelapa Kopyor Raya, Bakmi Karet Asiu own a small venue inside somebody's house. It comes with a very minimalist interior design like a traditional hawker food stall in Singapore. There is a small kitchen at the front while at the back, you might find noodle making process and cashier. Once you arrive here, what you need to do is to find your seat and wait until the staff ready to taking care your order.

 Bakmi Karet Special

 Bakmi Karet Special

You are not in Bakmi Karet Asiu without having Bakmi Karet Special (IDR 47,000 / S$ 5,30 / L). Featuring the perfectly chewy noodle with juicy slabs of charsiew, honey glazed pork, and crispy pork belly; coated with delicious soy sauce and mayu. Perhaps, the real winner of that bowl is just everything! I cannot resist that ultra tender meat with the glistening and crackling skin for sure. To enhance the flavor, just add one tablespoon of chili and soy sauce. Delicious.

 Bakmi Halus Babi Campur

 Bakmi Halus Babi Campur

 Bakmi Halus Babi Campur

Another trending menu of the time is Bakmi Halus Babi Campur (IDR 45,000 / S$ 5,10 / L). Set a differentiation in noodle type, the texture for each strand is no longer chewy but more likely as silky smooth. Removing that charsiew might be a wrong decision to make since the signature item in Bakmi Karet Asiu is there. However, it comes at a slightly lower price and same portion. Personally, I would choose the previous menu instead of this one.

Bihun Ayam Special

Bihun Ayam Special

Bihun Ayam Special (IDR 38,000 / S$ 4,40 / L) is also good for those who control the calories. Featuring the chicken vermicelli with fresh vegetables and lard. It is simple, delicious, and tasty. I take away this for my mom, and she loves this. She says this menu is one of the best noodles in town.

Bakso Goreng dan Pangsit Goreng

 Suikiaw

Still not enough? Just go with side dishes like Suikiaw (homemade Chinese dumpling stuffed with prawn and meat), Bakso Goreng (fried meatballs made of minced pork and shrimp), Fried Wonton (homemade Chinese dumpling with crispy skin and juicy filling).

For the beverage, I just prefer to have Iced Tea to remove the oily and fatty texture after feasting that meal. Also, I don't think they served any canned drinks as well because of the comfortable style of dining.

 Bakmi Asiu

If you are a noodle fanatic, Bakmi Karet Asiu is must try. The most delicious and complex pork noodle in Jakarta with juicy and tender slabs of charsiew. Nothing can beat this noodle experience! :)

Seo Seo Galbi PIK: Trending Korean BBQ & Kimchi Feast

 Seo Seo Galbi PIK

PIK always be my favorite neighborhood for eating and cafe hopping. More cafe founded each month, and this time it is all about Korean food. Brought to you directly from the mainland of Kimchi precisely Seoul, Seo Seo Galbi is a brand new F&B venture within the area.

This restaurant is fully owned by three Korean professionals who live in Indonesia for more than five years. One of them is the founder of Mr. Park at Grand Indonesia, the other one is the siblings from authentic Seo Seo Galbi in Seoul, and the last one is a businessman who is the expert in accounting. No wonder this triplet would ensure a pretty satisfying meal for every customer here.

Nestled in Pantai Indah Kapuk exactly beside Martabak Pecenongan 43, Seo Seo Galbi owned a small dining area with fixed grilles on every table. This two storey restaurant capable of handling 70 customers at the same time with no hesitation. During peak hour, the queue can be more than 20 guests. I do recommend you to RSVP instead of walk in. The dial number might be found below.
Start with the signature menu collection called Seo Seo Galbi (Beef) and Galmaegaesial (Pork). Both is a perfectly marinated meat with tons of spices and directly imported from the USA. No wonder it tastes unbelievably delicious and tasty.

Start with the signature menu collection called Seo Seo Galbi (Beef / 195,000 / 250gr) and Galmaegaesial (Pork / 85,000 / 185gr). Both is a perfectly marinated meat with tons of spices and directly imported from the USA. No wonder it tastes unbelievably delicious and tasty.

 Korean Side Dishes

 Seo Seo Sauce

Egg Dipping

When you start grilling, the waiter will start pouring the egg, mozzarella cheese and proper seo seo sauce on the side of that pan. Feel free to have it while it is warmth or just dip it with your choice of meat. Pretty satisfying and fulfilling! :)

Kim Chi Jeon Gol

Kim Chi Jeon Gol

Another best-selling item is Kim Chi Jeon Gol (179,000 / Medium or 259,000 / Large). Featuring the perfectly cooked fermented vegetables (kimchi) stew with silky smooth beancurd and tender meat; served with additional springy noodle. I do love this particular item since it tastes so spicy and sour. The real winner on that pan is just everything. That noodle has soaked up the richness of that soup while that meat remains tender until the last bites of it. Since it comes in a generous portion, feel free to share this with your loved one! :)

 Budae Jigae

 Budae Jigae

 Budae Jigae

Budae Jigae (179,000 / Medium or 259,000 / Large) is far more complicated than what you see there. Featuring the authentic Korean sausage stew with tons of meat and fresh vegetables including ham, pork belly, chicken dumplings, kimchi, onion, rice cake, and ramyeon noodle. All set in one item and taste incredibly smooth. I just expect for less spicy version. Because the strong chili flavor might kill someone's palate. But, for the rest of the component, I just love it! :)

 Ramyeon, Cheese Tteokbokki, and Gimbap

 Ramyeon

 Cheese Tteokbokki

 Gimbap

 Gimbap

Ramyeon, Tteokbokki, Gimbap (IDR 119,000 + IDR 30,000 for extra cheese) all in one package. Comes at a slightly better price, most of the customer attempt to order this. It is not because of the presentation anyway, but more likely about flavor. That kimbap is just perfectly rolled and stuffed with more meat. It is not even dry on the first bite until the last bit of it. Meanwhile, the cheese tobbokki is packed with huge mozzarella cheese to add a cheesy sensation for each of you. Not too spicy but pretty sweet and a bit salty for my liking. That ramyeon is the real winner here with silky smooth texture and slightly salty taste. When you combine this with any choice of meat, you will just fall in love every single strand of it. Never count your calories, but count your blessings! :)

For the beverage, they served several numbers of beer and soju. But, I just order the Korean tea which is free flow. It will neutralize the oily and fatty aftertaste.

 Seo Seo Galbi PIK

Seo Seo Galbi PIK is a home for Korean BBQ fanatic like me. All item taste as good as I expected. None of them disappoint me, nor make me feel regret. Especially, it still comes at a pretty reasonable price. Just bring your family here and treat them well! :)
