Pepper Lunch Singapore is the old establishment that never goes out of style. The subtle sensibilities to create a seasonal menu which inspired by the latest trend in food industry bring them an unstoppable crowd even on weekdays. Perhaps, in this venue, you can see more than a dozen menus ranging from the most juiciest Beef Pepper Rice to the finest Chicken & Scallop BBQ Rice. What makes them more interesting is they set a simple cooking method for each customer and allow them to mix-and-match with any toppings, sauces, or even more spices. Knowing this brand is quintessential in Singapore nowadays, our locals always describe them as a hearty Japanese restaurant. It is true since they create each menu inspired by local flavor and of course at affordable prices.
To be today, Pepper Lunch Singapore already got 35 outlets across the boundary and owning around 200 outlets across Asia. Each other got a same sense of design. The usage of light wooden furniture and their signature 'pepper lunch wallpaper' is easily spotted. What set the differences between this venue and any other brand is the beautiful aroma whenever you step in. It might be the best point so far.
Better started with Chicken Pepper Rice (S$ 6.90), the thin cut of chicken breast served with sunny side up and fragrant rice. From one perspective it's too simple, but people usually go with this. The juicy flavor of that meat drizzled with a bit of soy sauce and honey sauce results in a heartwarming meal to whetting our appetites.
The Scallops & Chicken BBQ Pepper Rice (S$ 8.90) was another winner with its fresh scallops tender chicken and decent barbecue sauce. Whenever you stir it, all of the aromas of that barbecue sauce will be released and soaked by that chicken and scallops. The juiciness of that chicken paired with the smoothness of that scallops will be melt in your mouth. Even the rice itself is already tasty, you can eat it without any toppings. Definitely a good choice for everyone.
All time favorite menu is here. The less fancy Beef Hamburg Curry (S$ 8.90) will satisfy you palate rightly. The meat is ultra-juicy meet the richness of curry sauce and sunny side up. Once you mixed it up together, all the flavor will get balanced, and you will hear the sizzling sound. Recently do a shooting for this, and people give a positive feedback. Does it mean a good sign for you to taste it? Absolutely taste better than it looks.
For people with Asian tongue, the presence of Pepper Chicken Teriyaki (S$ 8.90) will become your best pick all the time. The row of succulent chicken breast served together with mixed vegetables and egg would never run your day. It's simple, tasty, and packed with full-bodied flavor. Just see how that teriyaki sauce poured into the whole dish and now you start craving for it. Simply brilliant.
Overall, Pepper Lunch Singapore still one of the better bets for a comforting Japanese food in town. The reverence for meats is very present and executed nicely. Especially all the menus cost you less than S$ 10.00. No wonder people keep on coming back to them. Are you a pepper lunch fanatic?
