Chick-a-boo is the latest brand of Aston's that emphasized the idea of fast food restaurant. Serving 12 hours a day is more than enough to satisfy each of you actually. And yes, they are good enough to enter the competition with other fried chicken brand. Anyway, is it worth to try it? Definitely yes.
So far they got 3 outlets across Singapore and ready to expand more (next: East). The one that you see here is located at West side of Singapore, while the rest is located at CBD area and North. However, every single outlet have similar design which is simple and minimalist. They add more table here in order to reduce the queue time during the weekend and an online ordering machine to assist you more faster.
Chick-a-boo signature's cuisine is Fried Chicken and Fried Fish. It's pretty specific and easy to recognize, since they name has clearly represent those idea properly. On the other hand, my visit wouldn't just highlight those element because it will comes together with the choice of side dishes such as Coleslaw, Corn, Onion Ring, Sweet Potato Fries and even Cheesy Fries. And yes by adding those element into your plate, it would be more fun and interesting. Just start this right away.
First start, you should go with the Chicken Set (S$ 7.90). A combination of two pieces fried chicken with onion ring and sweet potato fries. The most powerful element located at the heart of that chicken itself which is superb-crispy, juicy and warmth. Also we can say that side dishes has escalade the whole flavour of that plate plus add more brightness into it. How to enjoy this dish properly? My suggestion is to add every single components in one bites so you can feel there is a right consistency between saltiness, crispness and of course juiciness of it. You also got a chance to choose between original fried chicken or the spicy one. Both option is pretty good though.
Next, we can move to the Fish Set (S$ 7.90) as the most significant dishes in Chic-a-boo. Probably I've ever taste so many Fried Fish until now, but still this one could be categorized as the good one. It's crispy, tender and not overwhelming which is little bit of saltiness is there while the freshness of fish is remain sealed. You might be argue there are so many restaurants who offer this dish more interesting (eye-catching), but still that price tag don't lie. Really affordable and entertaining as well.
It's pretty obvious to say that Cheezy Fries (S$ 3.50) has a limited capability to entertain you. Because generally Chic-a-boo is really care about this. People might be saying there are so many restaurants who offer this menu as well, but if you are looking for the most affordable one with good flavour, this one is yours. The cheese topping is great while the way they cooked that fries is really proper. Since the crispiness and saltiness is still there. Does it looks good?
Then, for some people who are still hungry and looking for the light bites. You just can add more side dishes like I explained before by spending S$ 2.00 per bowl. I think it's more than worth though. Such a good way to elevate your calories rightly.
Chic-a-boo is simply great in terms of price and honesty. They just specify their segment in the right way to be different. Worth to checking out anyway.
