Five Star Kampong Chicken - Honest Chinese Restaurant With Decent Flavour

As an oriental country, Singapore is rich of Chinese restaurant. Every single side of the city has been filled by those typical Asian dishes and most of them has their own characteristics to set up the differences with the other contenders. I believe if your are living in West side of Singapore, Five Star Kampong Chicken is more familiar with you.

Located next to the Beauty World MRT, this place is absolutely reachable. Actually this restaurant is not that big and spacious, since they only have around 15 tables across the area. But it doesn't affect the customer perception a lot, you will see a long queue during the weekend or maybe weekday dinner. The way they served the food is pretty fast and it is all fresh made. Good mark for this restaurant.

Once you get the table, you will find a menu book and do not be confused because there are a lot of Chinese cuisine that will attract you for a while. Basically several menus is the best seller one, and most of them will create a high - standard beyond your expectations. I will provide the right options for you here.

First one as the starter, you can try their Ngohiang Prawn Rolls (S$ 8.00). Well known side dish in Five Star Kampong Chicken is belong to this and guess what it is totally impressive. It is more than crispy, crunchy, dense, delicious, and moist because it is made from scratch. Once you try it, you will find the richness of that prawn filling along with the crunchiness of that beancurd layer. Usually they served this with honey butter sauce and it is totally match to be paired together. So far this one is the most beautiful Ngo Hiang in Singapore that I ever tasted. I will revise it, if I find the new one.

Probably their Hometown Tofu (S$ 8.00) could be your right decision if you are avoiding fried food. I mean it has a thick sauce, fresh tofu and layer of seaweed. Everything is well packed in one plate.

Moving to the main course, you will know understand why Pan Fried Prawn with Salad Sauce by Five Star Kampong Chicken (S$ 15.00/S) here is more credible over the contenders. The prawn is nicely cooked and has been covered by thick layer of flour. All the freshness and crispness is there. Actually the most important thing here is that mayo sauce mixed with the slice of fruits has placed this dish to fit people's standard. That price tag is really reasonable compared with the flavour.

You will be satisfied with this classic Chinese menu. If you are looking for extra calories, then Mee Goreng (S$ 5.50/S) by Five Star Kampong Chicken is pretty entertaining. They cooked that thick noodle with several fresh seafood and add some specific spices in order to elevate the whole flavour of it. The presentation is pretty simple, and the taste is quite good.

Five Star Kampong Chicken is a good reason to stay in West side of Singapore. If you are kind of curious with honest Chinese cuisine in classic way of presentation this restaurant is suit you well. Find out more on my Instagram and Snapchat.
